Saturday Southern Slang - "tongue shui"

tongue-shui

My household makes up a lot of words,
 then, we USE them...

Some days are better than others
some days i should keep my mouth shut
tape it up
I say stupid stuff not even trying
tongue-shui
Today's Saturday Southern Slang
is
"tongue shui"
like feng shui but for the mouth

Definition: saying the right things in harmony with the environment & others

Used in a sentence: I'm sorry, did that hurt your feelings? I guess my tongue shui is off today!
or
I could tell you how to get rid of those bumps on your face but my tongue shui says I shouldn't.

Be careful little mouth what you say
my mom always says "if you can't say something good, don't say anything."
have you got a tongue that's loose at both ends?
practice some tongue shui
think about your words and place them carefully in the room
people and the environment will love you for it
There's a reason for thinkin' before you go speakin'

Tongue what?

Confession is good for the soul, right? Let's feel good about ourselves today and get it all out! Are you like me? Need some discipline when it comes to money? Why getting Wet is better than being Dry

 Holy Spirit rain down
We've had a rainy summer in Georgia! When the rain keeps coming, people complain loudly. When the rain stops, people complain louder. Doesn't seem like we the people can be happy. Gary Smith led our congregation in a beautiful song this past Sunday, "Holy Spirit Rain Down."  I cannot listen to this song or sing it without tears raining down my face. Such powerful, beautiful words and music by Russell Fragar.  Would you rather be in a flood or a drought?

You'd probably answer, like me, NEITHER! There are terrible things about both. Floods and droughts are dangerous, destructive and difficult. The human body is 60% water and human blood is 92% water. We must have water to live, without it we will die. The Bible says in Psalm 32:4 "For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah." The psalmist sounds like he's in a desperate place. I've lived through droughts, physical and spiritual. I hate the "dry" feeling, swiveled up without any liquid in my veins, dehydrated. Do you remember a drought in your life?

I've been in some flash floods and seen some rising water on tv. The thing about a flood is you can get out of its way, move to higher ground or get in a boat. As I listen to Holy Spirit Rain Down, I don't want the raining down of his Holy Spirit to stop! It's such a sweet Presence like a cool glass of water when you're parched and thirsty. Isn't it amazing that we can't produce water? God has to provide it or we don't get it. Water cleanses, refreshes and satisfies just like the Holy Spirit. We should be begging for it to rain down on us and in us and never stop!

Let's close up our umbrellas we're shielding ourselves with and let His Holiness rain down! Think about this...the surest place to get rained on is inside the house, His House, the church.

Praying for rain,
Tammy

5 Ways to Encourage Special Education Students

beautiful-teacher-daughters
Okay, okay I'll admit it! I have a beautiful family
I never anticipated our daughters
Sydnee (the bride) and Sloane (maid of honor)
to be teachers.
Steve and I are so proud of them!

Sydnee was an undecided senior in high school
taking the same class with a young man
who suffered a tragic accident
leaving him profoundly paralyzed.
She believes God used this experience to mold
her future as a Special Education teacher.
Sydnee has a big heart for her students!
Recently, she was challenged to find a learning environment
for one of her classes.
Should this be her job? Not sure.
She rose to the challenge but not without challenges.
See these boxes
school-books
they all had to be moved
by me
using these
handtrucks
Sydnee is expecting my first grandchild
everyone else was busy...figures.
We got the job done though...
here's the room conducive to learning
storage room now classroom
Finally, I was/am impressed with Sydnee's philosophies
which is the subject of this post

1. Have the same goal for all your students
2. Understand your students but don't be easy on them
  1. hard-work-and-learning
    3. Make reminder rules visible so your students know them
     4. Provide a welcome learning environment that is not "different" from other classrooms.

    5. Treat your students like all other kids.

Take it from me, "The Happy Handicap" we don't want things easy or treated differently!
Please share your ways to encourage special education students by leaving a comment.

    Always Encouraged,
    Tammy
