When Prayer isn't Enough...

Have you ever heard someone make the comment "My prayer didn't get out of the roof" or something like that? What they're trying to say is their prayer was just words, it didn't move God's heart. Why do our prayers fall short?
Why are our prayers not answered?

Prayer is powerful. Prayer changes things. Did you know there are two steps to a prayer:
  1. speak the prayer aloud or silent
  2. believe God for the answer
Is step #1 enough? Does saying a prayer = an answer? The Bible says in Matthew 21:22 "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." It takes more than murmuring a prayer to touch God. We see this clearly when asking for salvation. Do you receive salvation simply because you ask or must you believe?

John 3:16 says eternal life comes to those who what? Believe! I'm guilty of the "Agrippa-tude" (Acts 26:28) in my prayers, are you? I pray the words and like a telegraph insert the word "stop" when I'm finished. I don't believe God to come thru with the answer. I imagine God shaking his head in disbelief saying "Tammy, almost thou persuadeth me to answer your prayer if you believed."

Christianity isn't a fairy tale or make-believe, it's MUST-BELIEVE.

Leave me a comment with your thoughts on prayer and belief.

Believing God,

How to make Leftover Chuck Roast a Flavorful Chinese Stirfry

chinese stirfry

I had leftover chuck roast today. After making roast beef sandwiches twice, I wondered what I could do kinda creative with the leftover beef. I had asparagus I needed to use too!

I feel like a Master Chef after finding this recipe for Beef and Asparagus Stirfry! I modified it a bit and voila (or some chinese word I don't know). The result was this wonderful dish.

My modifications to Isabelle Boucher (Crumb's) recipe:

1. Use leftover chuck roast for the striploin steak
2. Add onions, chives and water chestnuts (my husband loves water chestnuts)
3. Omit the cornstarch and black bean stir fry
4. Sub the dry sherry for cooking wine on-hand
5. Shorten the cooking time because my beef was already cooked

Yummy! I prefer chicken over beef any day but I REALLY enjoyed this dish! Give it a try and let me know what ya think.

Pleasantly surprised,
Tammy

Who's in your Corner?

"IT'S NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, IT'S WHO YOU KNOW"

We've all heard the adage. I'm not sure where it originated or how but it is true. Have you?  A banker may overlook a bad credit score to loan money if he knows you. An employer will hire you over an educated, experienced person if you're a friend of a friend of a friend. People will buy from you just because of an existing relationship! Can you think of some situations where it's more important to know someone and not knowing some thing?

My son-in-law is trying to break into the music business. His group has a manager and a booking agent. Sydnee and I were discussing his tour schedule and how he had to "know" someone to get into some top venues. She said "It's always better to have someone in your corner!" She's right. We always get better results when we have an advocate, someone who's pulling for us, someone who has our backs and someone who knows someone.

The same adage is true for everyday life and eternity. When life holds us down for the count, we need someone in our corner who knows us and we know them. The Bible says in Isaiah 28:16 " Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste." Jesus is in our corner! "Knowing" him secures us an eternal home in heaven. The knowledge that Jesus is the Son of God and he died for our sins is not enough to go to heaven.. You must "know" Jesus as your personal Savior and he know you. You must believe he is your advocate with the Heavenly Father proving truly....

"IT NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, IT"S WHO YOU KNOW"

Is Jesus your Friend?

i-want-you
How healthy are your relationships? Think about your relationship with your parents, siblings, children, friends, spouse and co-workers. Relationships are the most valuable asset we invest in as individuals.  Have you thought about your affect on people, good or bad? Your affect people is clearly visible.. Are your relationships growing stronger or weaker? Is your circle of influence growing or shrinking? Does your family surround you or are you alone?

Proverbs 18:24 encourages with these words "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother." Are you friendly? Webster's defines friendly as kind and helpful; not hostile. If your friends described you in one word, what would it be? How would Jesus describe you? Giving or needy? Would he describe you as a child he hears from only when you need something?

I cherish my relationships. I get excited hearing from you. I am so thankful to hear something I wrote encouraged you. I just like to receive a quick "Hi!".  I see my daughters every day but I never tire of them. My love for them grows stronger every time we spend time together. Can you imagine how Jesus feels when we talk to him or more importantly, when we don't? You might try to excuse yourself by saying he's got so many people talking to him he won't even notice I don't! Think again. Jesus wants you as his friend. He wants a personal relationship with you. Relationships are hard work. I've always heard if something is worth having, it is worth working for.

Our relationship with Jesus is the perfect example of how to restore all relationships. Confess your faults, ask forgiveness and then accept forgiveness. Start restoring your relationships today. William Penn said "A true friend freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably." Does this describe you, friend?

Friendly,
Tammy

Easy Gluten-free Chocolate Gravy Dumplings

kid favorite
I made a batch of gluten-free chicken and dumplings using my "go-to" gluten-free biscuit mix Bisquick. I even used Betty's recipe. While eating the scrumptious chicken and dumplings my hubby had the idea of making the same dish using chocolate gravy . Chocolate Gravy is a favorite with my kids. They are all grown up and still L.O.V.E. chocolate gravy. I thought it a good idea, easier than making biscuits and gravy separately. Easy Gluten-free Chocolate Gravy Dumplings are the result of his imaginative flavor palette! Please try it for yourself with this recipe.

Gravy:
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cups milk
Dumplings:
  • 3/4 cup Bisquick® Gluten Free mix
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  1. In a large frying pan combine sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Whisk in the milk and butter. Before putting on stove, complete step 3.
  3. In small bowl, stir dumpling ingredients with fork until blended.
  4. Place frying pan with gravy ingredients on medium heat and bring to light boil. Reduce heat to low.
  5. Gently drop dumpling dough by 8-12 rounded spoonfuls onto boiling gravy mixture.
  6. Cook uncovered over low heat 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10-15 minutes longer.
  7. Spoon dumplings onto plate and cover with gravy.
  8. Spoon additional butter over hot gravy if desired.
