How Substitution Saved the World
I began an exciting
adventure yesterday! I substitute taught at Cedar Ridge Elementary. The
preparation for becoming a sub was a half day class. I found out quickly the
class had little to do with actually being in the classroom. Driving to
the school last morning, the word "substitute" kept spinning around
in my head like a ballerina performing a pirouette. I wondered if I'd make a
good substitute. Will I teach the the children anything? Will I please
the teacher who hired me? Am I worthy to be a sub?
Revelation 5:2 asked "Who is worthy to open the book and loose the seals thereof?" John wept much because no man was found worthy to open and read the book, neither to look upon it. But wait...Cry not because BEHOLD, the Root of David has prevailed to open the book and loosen the seals! They begin to sing a new song, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing." A Bachelors Degree or a minimum of 4 years of college is the requirement that satisfies the State of Georgia to become a teacher. A substitute is only required a 1/2 day class. Was I worthy of the job, not hardly! The job of Savior of the world required God himself. He sent his son Jesus so the world through him might be saved. He was the only one worthy to die for our atonement. Jesus' blood is the only thing that satisfies God for our unrighteousness.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Communion
A gentle wind blows as I walk the steps into the sanctuary. Ushers hand out the week's program in a
welcome exchange. I never read the news before I settle into my seat on Row #6. I breathe in the beautiful
setting admiring the creamy walls, stained glass and towering wooden arches. My heart leaps as I sit down on the comfortable pew. The communion table is set. I love the sacred ceremony of communion; the reverence, the symbolism, the quietness. I feel a freshness in the air like purity after a rain. I pray to receive God's goodness. Unspeakable power flows down the aisles and through the pews as the Holy Spirit says grace over the meal we receive. I cherish the unity of the church as we hold our bread until everyone is served and then eat together. The drink is taken in like manner. It truly feels like we are eating dinner with the Almighty. I look around as if to see a glimpse of God in the quiet stillness. The quietness is best described as perfect peace, an enveloping calm losing yourself in his love. I see the corners of God's mouth turn upward as a smile floods his face to see his people worship him through his son. Christ said every time we eat the bread and drink the cup, we do it in remembrance of him. Exiting the church after the service, I see a milk truck. I think of God and whisper knowingly "Yes, he does a body good!"
Satisfied and full,
Tammy
