The Best Trunk or Treat Idea for 2018
I love Disney! Kids love Disney! My 2015 theme was Alice in Wonderland. Please click the link for another cool trunk idea. My mind turned to Princesses this year. How does a princess relate to a church trunk or treat theme? Jesus is the King of Kings, therefore, being his daughter, I'm a princess. My Daddy is the King of Kings. How cool! This idea works best in an SUV type vehicle.
What you'll need for the Trunk: (All links are Amazon. I receive a small commission if you buy through my link)
- spray paints (white, silver, gold, blue, orange, maroon, black) I used what I had on-hand
- four large square cardboard boxes
- two large tall rectangular cardboard boxes
- Elmer's glue and glitter
- Wide tip Black Magic Marker or Sharpie
- plastic toy chain
- Wire ties
- Costumes: Belle, Prince Charming and Snow White
- Various royal-looking plastic bowls (I found some at Dollar Tree)
- Candy
- One string of 100-bulb Christmas lights
- Car Converter
- Scissors
Cut two large pieces to fit the back back of your vehicle like the pictures. Ideally, the trunk resembles a drawbridge door. I attached the chains to my hatch at the top and the "I am the Door drawbridge" at the bottom with wire ties. The drawbridge is drawn and written with black wide tip marker. I spray painted the "King of Kings" sign to resemble the inside of the castle with curtains like so. Then I wrote "Our Daddy is the King of Kings" in Elmer's glue and glittered. This sign is simply stuffed inside the hatchback, no mounting needed.
I loaded all my pieces into the car and setup at the church parking lot. The weather was perfect. I didn't have any problem with the boxes standing up without being weighted. If you expect bad weather or wind, try placing a large rock inside each box for stability. After setup, we strung the lights. Using scissors, we punctured holes in the boxes to insert the lights (see picture below). Use the car converter to power the lights once it is dark.

The finishing touch is the costumes.
Kids and adults had so much fun meeting the prince and princesses! Such a fun night for Jesus!
I took a stool to sit beside the trunk to greet kids and for pictures. Most of the kids want their picture with the beautiful Belle and handsome prince!
One funny thing I discovered with this trunk...this 54-year-old found out most kids don't even know who Snow White is! I still enjoyed playing the part. :)

Trunk or Treat Idea

Fall is in the air. Halloween is just around the corner. If you're like me, you are already googling Trunk or Treat Ideas. Decorated trunks have become a favorite at many Halloween festivities and especially churches. Kids are always excited to get candy. I'm always excited to see the elaborate trunk themes! We work long and hard on these trunks but finding the items to create them isn't hard at all with Oriental Trading as our Halloween Headquarters for decorations.
Let me share the details of Noah's "ARK"cade trunk. Everyone loves amusement parks, especially children. Most amusement parks have game arcades where you play the game and hopefully win a prize. At Noah's Arkcade, you play the game and ALWAYS win a prize! How cute are these Color Your Own Heart Bubble Bottles for a prize? These Mini Marker Sets are a must to color the hearts. You might get the chance to witness about how God's love is always "bubbling" up!
May I suggest these animal-themed games for your arcade? You can even buy two of each to make your Noah theme more realistic and easily accessible to more kids! The Inflatable Alligator Ring is fun for all ages trying to "ring" the alligators nose or tail. The Going Bananas Monkey Bean Bag Toss gives you a chance to have some fun with your little players by asking them to scratch their head and make monkey sounds before taking a turn. Don't forget extra bean bags! One of my favorite games is Pick up Ducks. Place these cute duckies in a tub of water. Take a permanent marker to place a number corresponding to a prize on each duck. Kids simply "pick up a duck" to win a prize. Use these or find many more at Oriental Trading Halloween Headquarters.
Your trunk might look something like this with your games in front of the ark and off to the sides.
Simply make this ark-like structure from cardboard and use these Jumbo Zoo Animal Cut-Outs for the animals in your boat. You might also want to add a balloon arch similar to the picture below to create an arcade-like arched entrance way.
A rainbow-colored arch is perfect for a Noah's Ark theme. Balloons are fun, pretty, add tons of color AND are super easy to decorate with. My family and I plan to dress up like different animals to add more excitement to the ARKcade! A Printed Animal Face Mask would also do the trick!

Trunk or Treat Idea: Alice in Wonderland
We're All MAD Here!

What you'll need for The Trunk:
- a psychedelic brightly colored fleece blanket or towel
- stuffed white rabbit
- teapot, sugar/creamer and a couple of tea cups with saucers
- printed directional signs taped to a cardboard post (see pic below)
- bucket with rocks to stationary cardboard post
- cardboard and white paper for clock
- string of 50 Christmas lights (optional)
- large butterflies or flowers (My butterflies are about 10 years old. They were so pretty I hated to throw them away so I stapled them to our garage wall. I KNEW they'd come in handy one day!)
- printed cheshire cat taped to cardboard for stability

So MUCH Fun!
A brief summary on making the Queen of Hearts costume. I took an old long skirt slit the front and sewed in 2/3 yards of the silk "royal" looking fabric I found at Walmart for $3. I took an old black t-shirt and sewed in the pouf sleeves using a rubber band to keep them in place. You can sew or glue the felt heart on the front. The red gloves are from Walmart Halloween section. Added some costume jewelry, a crown, makeup and red paint on my hair. I got the skirt to look full by wearing my daughters' stand out slip (kids size 10-12). I didn't think I was a hoarder until I pulled that slip out of the cedar chest!

How to Decorate Cookies for Halloween
I digress. That had nothing to do with decorating cookies! Here's the info you're looking for...
CREEPY CRAWLY COOKIES
Get caught in a web of delicious decorating with a technique
that’s perfect to use on the All-Occasion
Cookie. Just frost the cookies with white icing then draw a swirl
pattern on top with black-tinted icing, starting in the center and working
outward. Using the tester end of the Cake Tester & ReleasingTool, start at the center point and drag it outward through the icing
to the edge of the cookie. Repeat this process around the entire cookie until
you weave your web.
The perfect cookie icing technique (this makes enough for
about 3 dozen cookies): Whisk ¾ cup milk, ½ cup plus 1 tbsp light corn
syrup and 1 tsp Double-StrengthVanilla in a large mixing bowl. Add 10 cups powdered sugar and
whisk until smooth. Add more milk or powdered sugar 1 tbsp at a time if icing
is too thick or too thin. Place ½ cup of icing in a separate bowl and mix in ½
tsp black food coloring. Transfer tinted icing to the Decorator Bottle with
writing tip.
Place cookies on a Stackable Cooling Rack with
waxed paper underneath to catch drippings. Dollop a Medium Scoop-sized
amount of white icing onto each cookie and allow it to spread. Immediately
create the web with black icing using the technique described above.
